The Day Nursery is situated in a
farmhouse, on the borders of Hertfordshire and Essex, near Bishop's Stortford,
close to Stansted Airport.
We are walking distance of the Terminal with trains and
transport links to London We have parking available for Parents wishing to leave their cars
with us during their working day.
The Nursery was originally established in 1985, and
registered with the Department For Education, as a school, in 1987. It was
opened by a fully
qualified teacher, to
offer a program of full child care and early years education, for children up to the age of five years.
The Nursery was re-registered in 2003 as a Day Nursery in order to enable
younger children and babies to be able to attend. It is surrounded
by fields and trees, and is set in about two acres of farmland.
High House Day Nursery offers pre school care
and education to babies and children from 3 months, and is open from 8 am to
6 pm. The day nursery is open for the full year, closing during the Christmas
break only.
We are a family run company, not a chain, and we run our
Nursery accordingly. Your child is as special to us as he or she is to you and
will become a part of our family, within the Nursery.
We have 3 buildings, with children attending split in to different age ranges:
Babies 3 months - 2 years
Toddlers 2 years to 3 years
Pre School 3yrs to 5years

Vanessa receiving her Early
Years Professional Status award
Estelle Morris, former Minister for Education
with Vanessa and Floella Benjamin. |
|
Vanessa received the
Certificate for Early Years Professional Status in 2007 - an
important step forward in the care and education of young children.
Only
a few Nursery schools in the country have attained this level of
excellence and have been awarded the certificate. Our Nursery is one of
the first. The award ceremony in
the prestigious Commonwealth Club in London, saw Vanessa being
presented with her certificate by Estelle Morris former Minister for
Education, (and for those of you who remember 'Playschool' Floella
Benjamin!)
The ceremony was attended by many important figures in
the field of education, anxious to ensure that both the public and
press, attending the awards ceremony, were aware of the importance of
this forward step in the ongoing development of Nursery Education.

Aims of the High
House Montessori Day Nursery
To
achieve through the curriculum the Birth to Three and the Foundation
stages for pre-school children, as stated within the Government schedule
for Pre-School and Nursery Education. These will be implemented through
our aims and objectives as follows:
|
|
To
provide an environment for learning, offering the highest standards in
child care.
To understand the child as an
individual. Identify and provide for the needs of that individual.
To encourage self discipline and
awareness of others.
|
 |
|
  |
By a careful structured
curriculum to direct the child towards new
discoveries, assisting
in the formation of
concepts.
To develop literacy and numerical
skills necessary to give the optimum opportunities at all levels.
Providing the means by which the
child can be creative. The curriculum will allow the widest interpretation
involving children in linguistic, aesthetic and technological creativity.
To develop the concentration skills
of listening and observing.
|
|
To provide for physical play
allowing the development of co-operation, gross motor skills and social
interaction.
Providing facilities for play,
to encourage emotional development and social awareness.
The Day Nursery will provide a
moral framework whereby children can learn to understand their responsibilities
towards both themselves and others.
The Day Nursery curriculum is
aiming to provide the variety of both teaching and experience, necessary
to stimulate curiosity, develop understanding and consolidate learning.

What happens if?
Shall I try a different way?
Learning from everywhere and everything.
The outside environment is as important as the inside setting. Our children
learn from the grass and the trees, in Winter and in Summer - using three
different play surfaces and the widest variety of play equipment, both
conventional and sometimes very unconventional !
